A real economy
Two resources, ore and crystal. Workers gather them and carry them home, and supply limits how big your army can be. Moving out to richer ground pays, but it costs you something too.

01 / PLAY
Everything a classic real-time strategy game asks of you is here, in a science-fiction world of its own, with its own factions and units.
Two resources, ore and crystal. Workers gather them and carry them home, and supply limits how big your army can be. Moving out to richer ground pays, but it costs you something too.
Meridian fights from a distance and moves fast. Basalt is slow and heavily armoured. Drift’s whole base can walk. Thicket grows its buildings on a network of roots. Prism links its machines together, and Tessel’s matter can be reshaped. Each one has units of its own.
Follow the war across Kiln, Verdance, Wayfare, Chord and Lumen. Each campaign is told in comic pages, with spoken lines and people of its own. Tutorials teach Meridian, Basalt, Drift, Thicket and Prism one step at a time.
Box select, control groups, attack-move, patrol, hold, queued orders, rally points and a minimap, with the shortcuts RTS players expect. On a phone or tablet, you play with touch.
Play a full match against the computer, and make it easier or harder. What you haven’t seen stays dark. High ground and watchtowers let you see further, and the computer has to scout too.
Play against other people, from one against one up to eight on a map, each alone or in teams. Host a game and send your friends its code, or join someone who is waiting in the lobby. You don’t need an account. Every machine plays the same battle from the same orders, and the server checks every order.
02 / CREATE
The editor that came with StarCraft made a generation of designers. Strata War’s editor is part of the game, in the browser and in the apps, with nothing extra to install.
Raise, lower, flatten and ramp across six height levels. Paint walls, clear paths, and dress the battlefield with rocks, spires, wrecks and growth.
Place bases, starting crews, ore and crystal fields and watchtowers for each side, then play it straight from the editor.
Give a map a briefing and objectives — required, bonus, and ways to lose — and string missions together into a campaign of your own.
Maps are saved as files you can share. A map is only data, and the game checks it before it opens it, so a map someone gives you can never run code on your machine.
03 / EVERYWHERE
Most RTS games ask for a gaming PC and a large download. Strata War is designed the other way round: one game, one codebase, running wherever a modern browser does.
Play in a modern browser with WebGL2 on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS, and install it as an app if you like. After your first visit, skirmish, replays and the editor work without a connection. Apps for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android and Steam are built from the same code and are being tested before they go to the stores.
Procedural geometry and GPU instancing draw up to 2,000 units, and a low-power graphics mode keeps older laptops playable. Gameplay is identical at every quality setting.
Maps, missions and campaigns are data you make and share, and the simulation already supports matches with more than two sides. The game is designed to be extended by its players.
A fixed-tick, seeded, integer simulation: every client computes the same battle, so a match can be checked, replayed and rebuilt exactly.

QUESTIONS
Strata War is a free-to-play real-time strategy (RTS) game in the tradition of StarCraft. You gather ore and crystal, build a base, train an army and research upgrades to beat your opponent. It has six factions, five story campaigns, skirmish against the computer, online matches, and a map, mission and campaign editor. It runs in a web browser.
Strata War is a free-to-play option built around what StarCraft II players value: a two-resource economy, workers, supply, six factions that each play differently, scouting under fog of war, and fast control with hotkeys, control groups and attack-move. Unlike most RTS games it plays in the browser with no download and includes a map editor. Other well-known RTS games include Age of Empires IV, Company of Heroes 3, Stormgate, Warcraft III: Reforged and the free Beyond All Reason.
We cannot speak for Blizzard’s plans. If you want a new RTS in the spirit of StarCraft now, you can play Strata War free in your browser. It has a world of its own, six factions, five story campaigns, and a map editor for making your own scenarios.
Yes, it is free to play, and the game shows no ads. The Kiln and Verdance campaigns, every tutorial, skirmish, online games for up to four players and the map editor are free, and you don’t need an account to play them. Three more campaigns, Wayfare, Chord and Lumen, are for sale. You can buy the Full Game once, or subscribe to Premium Access and pay each month. Either one opens all three, and the campaigns that come after them. Either one also lets you host online games for five to eight players, which anyone can join for free, and publish your maps for everyone to play once we have looked at them. You sign in to buy, so they go with your account to every device you sign in on. The game shows the price before you pay.
Yes. Strata War runs in recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on computers with WebGL2. Open stratawar.com/game and play. You can also install it as an app from the browser. After your first visit, skirmish, replays and the map editor work without a connection. The support page lists the browsers and versions the game needs.
It runs in the browser on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS. A low-power graphics mode keeps modest laptops playable, and the game plays the same at every quality setting. Touch controls are built in. Apps for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android are built and being tested, and they aren’t in the stores yet.
Yes. The built-in editor lets you sculpt terrain across six height levels, add walls, ramps and scenery, place bases, crews, resources and watchtowers, write missions with objectives and briefings, and combine missions into a campaign — all in the browser.
Yes. You can play online against other people, with no account, from one against one up to eight on a map, each alone or in teams. Games for up to four are free. A game for five to eight needs its host to have the Full Game or Premium Access, and anyone can join it for free. Every machine plays the same battle from the same orders, and the server checks every order. A quick match pairs players by connection quality, and a player who drops out can come back to their seat.
It keeps the classic RTS core but changes the platform and the ownership: it is free to play, runs in the browser on most hardware instead of requiring a gaming PC, scales down to low-power devices and up to thousands of units, and treats map, mission and campaign creation as part of the game. Its setting, factions and units are entirely original.
Both. Play the five story campaigns and the tutorials. Play skirmishes against a computer opponent that gathers, builds, scouts and attacks. Play missions and campaigns made in the editor, or play another person online.
Strata War is an independent game with its own original engine, written for the browser and native platforms from one codebase. It is not affiliated with Blizzard Entertainment or any other RTS publisher.
